Mount Timpanogos - Under My Feet
For years I had hoped to hike Mount Timpanogos and it finally happened last Saturday morning. My friend, Bryce, and I started on the 14 plus mile hike at 2am. We reached the summit just before sunrise at 7 and finished around 11am. We had to cross a snow field in the dark and spent some time wondering back and forth until a fellow hiker found the trail with his GPS device. It was long, high, and rewarding. Spending time at the top of a mountain can be a very inspiring and spiritual occasion but the 2 dozen people at the summit inhibited the solemnity I desired. I hope to scale the great mount again when few will be there, perhaps in the winter time.

I have two schools of thought:
ReplyDelete1. That's kind of narrow...and steep...and scary! I'm not a big risk-taker, especially now that I have a family. I'm so glad you were safe. Also, brrrrr, that looks cold.
2. Wow, what a beautiful view! It must feel so good to take on that challenge and then enjoy the reward of majestic beauty at the top. It's really beautiful. Thank you for sharing your pictures and your adventure.
If you go again, be careful! (P.S. I know this is unsolicited advice, so you probably will be inclined to ignore it. Plus, I'm a cautious-mommy-type, so you further may choose not to listen. But I strongly discourage going in winter!!!!!!!)
:) Love you, bud!
The only reason I am considering doing it in the winter time is because a good friend of mine has all the gear and experience to do it. He climbed Mt. Rainier with his wife this summer along with the Tetons and half dome in California. I would never venture up such a mountain without a an experienced friend whom I trust.
ReplyDeleteWow Jordan, I am speechless, can't believe you did this OMG!!!! I have to ditto what Jill said :) I am an overprotective sis you know! I love you so so much, I am super proud of you! You always amaze me, and I admire you so much!
